Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Opening Range Breakout strategy?

The Opening Range Breakout (ORB) is a day trading strategy where traders identify the high and low of a stock's opening range (typically the first 5–30 minutes of the session), then enter a trade when price breaks above the high or below the low, with a stop-loss at the opposite side of the range.

Do I need an Interactive Brokers account?

Yes. RangeBreak connects to Interactive Brokers Trader Workstation (TWS) via the IB API on your local machine. You need an active IB account with TWS or IB Gateway running and API connections enabled.

Is RangeBreak free?

Yes. RangeBreak is a free, community-built tool. There are no fees, subscriptions, or premium tiers. It is open-source and in active beta development.

Is my account data safe?

Your IB credentials and API keys stay on your local machine. The local agent connects to TWS on localhost and only forwards market data and order commands through an encrypted WebSocket connection. We never have access to your brokerage login.

What platforms are supported?

RangeBreak supports Windows (x64) and macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel). The dashboard itself runs in any modern web browser.
